چکیده
Abstract Conversational agents or chatbots are a novel, highly accessible, and low-resource method of psychological intervention delivery. The present research aims to compare two brief chatbot interventions that delivered cognitive restructuring defusion interventions, respectively. It was hypothesized would lead reduced fusion decreased thought believability relative nonactive control. Participants ( N = 223; M age 28.01 [ SD 10.29]; 47 identified as male, 174 female, 2 nonbinary) were randomized into one three conditions (defusion, restructuring, control), engaged for 5 days completing mood measures pre- postintervention. Sixty-two participants 25.98; 8.647 years) completed again at time (49 12 1 nonbinary). No statistically significant differences observed among groups on thoughts F [2, 25] .79, p .47, ηp .06), negativity [2,25] 1.49, . 25, η .11), discomfort associated with [2 , 25 ] 48, .62, .04), willingness 3.00, .07, .19) have negative self-referential thoughts. Moreover, substantial attrition 72% observed. Acceptability usability the employed discussed contributing toward limited effectiveness elevated attrition. Various recommendations presented support researchers clinicians in developing engaging effective chatbots.

Cognitive Defusion Versus Cognitive Restructuring in the Treatment of Negative Self-Referential Thoughts: An Investigation of Process and Outcome
Within traditional cognitive therapy, cognitive restructuring is often used to challenge the veracity of dysfunctional thoughts. In contrast, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) uses “cognitive defusion” techniques to change the function of negative thoughts rather than modify their content. Previous research has shown that a cognitive defusion technique known as the “milk exercise” (rapidl...
متن کاملA parametric study of cognitive defusion and the believability and discomfort of negative self-relevant thoughts.
A previous time-series study showed that rapidly repeating a single-word version of a negative self-referential thought reduced the discomfort and the believability associated with that thought. The present parametric study examined whether durations of word repetition were differentially effective in altering the discomfort and believability of negative self-referential thought. In two studies...

Previous research has shown that rapid vocal repetition of a one-word version of negative self-referential thought reduces the stimulus functions (e.g., emotional discomfort and believability) associated with that thought. The present study compares the effects of that defusion strategy with thought distraction and distraction-based experimental control tasks on a negative self-referential thou...

Applied technologies designed to produce cognitive defusion seem to lead to reductions in the believability of negative thoughts, but defusion techniques are gen...
متن کاملCognitive defusion versus thought distraction: a clinical rationale, training, and experiential exercise in altering psychological impacts of negative self-referential thoughts.
Using two modes of intervention delivery, the present study compared the effects of a cognitive defusion strategy with a thought distraction strategy on the emotional discomfort and believability of negative self-referential thoughts. One mode of intervention delivery consisted of a clinical rationale and training (i.e., Partial condition). The other mode contained a condition-specific experien...
